Meet the new faculty

A big welcome to Chris Bailey, DO, Martin Charon, MD; Joo Cho, MD; Ryan Clayton, MD and Frank Dana, MD.

 

Chris Bailey, DO, joined the VIR section on August 1 as an Assistant Professor.  Dr. Bailey completed his VIR Fellowship in our department in June 2017 .

 

 

 

Martin Charron, MD, Section Chief of Nuclear Medicine joined the faculty on August 1 as a Professor.  Dr. Charron trained at Harvard University and the University of British Columbia.

 

 

 

Joo Cho, MD, joined the Pediatric Imaging section as an Assistant Professor on August 1 having recently completed his pediatric fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.

 

 

 

Ryan Clayton, MD, joined the Abdominal Imaging section on July 1 as an Assistant Professor.  Dr. Clayton, a VCU Radiology Residency alum, graduated with the class of 2016 and recently completed his Abdominal Imaging Fellowship in our department.

 

 

 

Frank Dana, MD, joined the Cardiothoracic section on July 1 as an Assistant Professor.  Dr. Dana completed his Cardiothoracic Fellowship in our department in June 2017 .

 

We look forward to seeing each of you in the hallways and reading rooms for many years to come.

Congratulations to Perry Myrick, MD and Michael “MVP” Perone, MD as the new co-chiefs, term starting July 2018.  Drs. Myrick and Perone will facilitate the socials for the series of upcoming resident interviews and start their year of being mentored by our current chiefs Drs. Con te partirò (Time to say goodbye)

It seems like yesterday when this group of 10 budding radiologists first entered the reading rooms with so much to learn about the careers they had selected.  Now, each of them are moving on to fellowships and/or faculty positions having “conquered radiology one slice at a time.”  Best of luck to each of our graduates (not that they will need it) and we will see you at a conference in the future.

Pinson Neal, Jr., M.D. – Outstanding Resident Award presented to Nirjhor Bhowmik, MD.  This award is given in recognition of consistent demonstration of excellent performance during residency training; consistent demonstration of above average or superior quality of professionalism, commitment, and dedication to specialty during residency to include preparation, studying, and clinical duties; demonstration of achievable interest in academic radiology and demonstration of professional initiative and motivation leading to recognition for achieving a significant leadership role.

Charles L. Baird Award presented to Taryar Zaw, MD.  This book award is given to the CV fellow or resident who has best demonstrated the sort of intellectual curiosity and interest in new and innovative cardiovascular imaging modalities that best reminds us of Dr. Baird

Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award presented to Harut Gyurjyan, MD.  This award is in recognition of presentations of scientific papers at regional or national meetings, publications of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals; receipt of a research grant or contributions to the success of a research program within the department and other research activities.
